On December 3, scores of music lovers filled our
sanctuary to experience "A Program of Music" programmed and arranged by
June Schuerch. … As a fitting finale, solo pianist Antonio Artese demonstrated the
splendor of our new Steinway by masterfully playing
Seven Preludes by Sergei Rachmaninov. His playing
evoked such rousing applause and foot stomping from the audience that he favored us
with an encore of a jazz rendition of Gershwin's song "The Man I Love".

"When he conluded with a frenzied version of Ellington's "It Don't Meang (If IT Ain't Got That Swing)"
and got up to leave, the "Bravos," and foot stomping wouldn't subside
and he was forced to return to the stage,
where he admitted he hadn't prepared an encore.
So, he did what he does best; he improvised.
"Silent Night" was his foil, which he played in the style of Mozart, Rachmaninov, Brahms, Debussy,
and Broadway composer Sammy Kahn,
before ending with a Joplinesque and decidedly upbeat "Silent Night."
